It is so refreshing to know that these stories are based on knowledge of wolf behavior, the ecosystem, the re-introduction, and so much more. Clint, you are a fantastic storyteller, with the added touch of a smart and thoughtful scientist. Thank you!
Thank you, Lauri! I love telling short stories that reveal remarkable things about these remarkable animals. Though I would never claim to be a scientist, thanks to teachers who put up with my antics in elementary school, I'm adequately skilled at reading books by people who are! :)
Wow! What a tremendous display of your writing capabilities, Clint! Art..pure ART! From your description of the snow event itself, (I’m right there in the silence and wonder) to how the wolves’ day unfolds as a result of it, I hung on every word!!!! My absolute favorite episode!!!!
I've always thought that winter living would be a great hardship on wolves (and other non-migratory homeotherms). The lack of prey mobility had not occurred to me. Is the curling smoke in the distance a foreshadowing of evil?
"Through a gauzy curtain of feathery flakes she sees a landscape that appears to have been erased."
Beautiful sentence.
Another wonderful story.

"Through a gauzy curtain of feathery flakes she sees a landscape that appears to have been erased." ❤️❤️
This might be my favorite story so far!
I really enjoyed this story and the surprise ending. I always learn something new about wolves through these stories. Looking forward to the next one.
I appreciated the meld of description, exposition and action all rolled into one quite artfully.

As Freud said, sometimes a curl of smoke is just a curl of smoke.
